Chapter 1 and Chapter 2

Chapter 1
  • By 3000 B.C. the Minoans lived on the large Greek island of Crete.
  • It included about 2000 islands in the Aegean and Ionian seas. 
  • Lands on the eastern edge of the Aegean were also part of Ancient Greece.
  • Greeks rarely had to travel more than 85 miles.
  • The seaways linked to most parts of Greece.
  • The Trojan war was during the 1200s B.C.
  • The Mycenaeans fought a ten year war against Troy.
Chapter 2
  • Greek city states had many different forms of government.
  • Most city states controlled between 50 and 500 square miles of territory.
  • Battle at Marathon the Persian Wars, between Greece and the Persian Empire and also began in Ionia on the cost of Anatolia. 
  • Greeks settled around 546 B.C.
  • In 490 B.C. a Persian fleet carried 25000 men across the Aegean Sea and landed northeast of Athens on a plain called Marathon.
  • The Phalanx became the most powerful fighting force in the ancient world.

King Philip II was the King of the Spaniards from 1556–1598 and King of the Portuguese as Philip I from 1580–1598. Philip II was remembered for his success and failures. His Successes were that his army beat Ottomans so they were defeated in 1571. Mason Freburger 6/4/20 Letter To My Future Self Dear Future Self, Things in the world changed my freshman year, during the year of 2020. There was a virus that started plaguing millions of Americans, it was called The Corona Virus.  This virus spanned across the world.  Hundreds of thousands of people died from being exposed to this virus.  The Corona Virus had a big impact on everyones life because everyone was ordered to self quarantine. This meant I could no longer attend school, visit with friends, go out to eat, and many other inconveniences. I couldn't even go get my haircut.  My mom had to cut my hair herself several times. The worst thing that I experienced having to do with the Corona Virus was that all sports were canceled and all gyms were closed. My life for the past several weeks has been horrible. Clash of The Tryants

Mason Freburger  2/24/20 Clash of The Tryants Hippias was a tryant who ruled from 527 to 510 BCE. Hippias was scared that he was going to get murdered like his brother did so he made some harsh rules because he ruled and didn't want to get killed. Eventually he was expelled from Athens which is called being ostracized.  He began to work with the Persian king Darius I and is helping them invade Marathon for revenge. Draconian means very harsh or strict.  508 BC started Democracy. When Hippias was gone Isagoras and Cleisthenes both were aristocrats. Isagoras had support from other aristocrats and from Sparta. Cleisthenes had support from the majority of Athens. Isagoras ostracized Cleisthenes. Isagoras was trapped on the acropolis for two days and on the third day he left and was not allowed back.
