The fighting Spartans:
- Spartan boys trained from the time they were seven.
- Spartans were known for their toughness and ruthlessness.
- Greeks were warlike people like the Spartans.
- Their most affective weapon was the Trireme.
- The Trireme was the fastest ship at the time.
- The Trireme rowed by up to 170 men on three levels of the ship.
- The Trireme was used as a battering ram also.
- Phalanx is a formation of warriors that were in lines as a group and getting ready to attack their enemies.
- Phalanx people each had a spear and a shield.
- In the Phalanx if you were in the front you had to put your spear out and your shield up.
- The Persian war was between the Persian Empire .V.S. Greece.
- Greece had know chance because the Persian Empire was huge and Greece was small.
- 490 BC: Persian fleet attacks Marathon, but loses.
- 480 BC: Greeks abandon Athens to fight Persia at sea, winning at Straits of Salamis.
- Pheidippides ran to Athens that is why it is called a Marathon today.
