Mycenaeans 

  • Fertile valleys cover one quarter of the Peninsula.
  • There was a Greek diet that was also known as the Mediterranean diet the food that is in it is grains, grapes, olives, and fish. 
  • Lack of resources led to Greek colonization.
  • Mycenae is located on a rocky ridge on Peloponnesus, protected by a 20 foot thick wall.
  • Mycenaean king dominated Greece from 1600-1100 BCE.
  • 1400 BCE- Mycenaeans invaded Crete and adapted to the Minoan culture which was their writing system, language, art, politics, literature, and religion.
Dorians:
  • Dorians were far less advanced.
  • The trade-based economy collapsed.
  • Writing disappeared for 400 years. 
  • Dorians were good fighters but that was it. 
Odyssey:
  • The Odyssey - Odysseus attempts to return home after the Trojan War, being thwarted by the angry god of the sea.
Homer:
  • Homer was author of the Iliad and the Odyssey two poems that are the center of Ancient Greek Literature.
  • The Greek poet Homer was born sometime between the 12th and 8th centuries BC.
  • He lived somewhere on the cost of Asia Minor.
