The Greeks Part Two 
  • The Persian Empire was conquered by the Greeks.
  • Their most affective weapon was the Trireme.
  • The Trireme was the fastest ship at the time. 
  • The Trireme rowed by up to 170 men on three levels of the ship.
  • The Trireme was used as a battering ram also.
  • The Triremes was also very expensive to buy.
  • The Persian war was between the Persian Empire .V.S. Greece. 
  • Greece had know chance because the Persian Empire was huge and Greece was small.
  • Pheidippides ran to Athens that is why it is called a Marathon today.
  • Greeks were warlike people like the Spartans. 
  • The Greeks invented drama as an art form and built the first theaters in the West.
  • Athens had a very strong navy. 
  • 490 BC: Persian fleet attacks Marathon, but loses.
  • 480 BC: Greeks abandon Athens to fight Persia at sea, winning at Straits of Salamis. 
  • Pheidippides ran to Athens that is why it is called a Marathon today.
