Roman Empire Notes
- civil war- a war between citizens of the same country.
- Julius Caesar - was a Roman statesman and general who played a critical role in the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire.
- Triumvirate- a group of three men holding power, the unofficial coalition of Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus in 60 BC and a coalition formed by Antony, Lepidus, and Octavian in 43 BC.
- Augustus- was a Roman statesman and military leader who became the first emperor of the Roman Empire, reigning from 27 BC until his death in AD 14.
- Pax Romana- the peace which existed between nationalities within the Roman Empire.
- During the empire most of Rome's city was unemployed.
- For the people that were unemployed the government supplied daily rations of grains.
- The earliest Romans worshiped powerful spirits or dive forces called numina.
- Slavery was important to the economy and a big thing in Rome.
- If the slaves had babies they were also turned into slaves.
