Mason Freburger 10/2/19 The Five Themes Of Human Geography             Each point of earth is unique because of each point on earth has different site characteristics like water, soil, vegetation, latitude, and elevation. Location is  a particular place or position. Toponym is a  place name, especially one derived from a topographical feature. Site is  an area of ground on which a town, building, or monument is constructed. Situation is  a set of circumstances in which one finds oneself; a state of affairs.  Geographers describe where things are by these three things  scale, space, and connections. Rank:  1. Place A- There would be a good source of food and transportation because it is on the coast. Pace C- It is close to the coast to get food and good transportation but it is close to Place B which could cause some competition.  It also has good farm land to be able to grow crops. Place B- It is clos...

Mason Freburger 9/26/19 Telling Times and Time Zones        Geographers describe where things are by these three things scale, space, and connections. Time Zones are  a range of longitudes where a common standard time is used. UTC is  Universal Time Coordinated. GMT is  Greenwich Mean Time. Daylight Savings Time is  the practice of turning the clock ahead as warmer weather approaches and back as it becomes colder again so that people will have one more hour of  daylight  in the afternoon and evening during the warmer season of the year. Standard  Deviation is  a quantity calculated to indicate the extent of deviation for a group as a whole.  G eographers calculate standard deviation off of time at UTC  by every fifteen degrees they either add or subtract depending on which way they  are going.
Mason Freburger 9/25/19 The Geographic Grid       Geographers describe where things are by these three things scale, space, and connections. Geographic Grid is a  system of imaginary arcs drawn in a  grid  pattern on Earths surface.  Latitude is  the angular distance of a place north or south of the earth's equator. Longitude is t he angular distance of a place east or west of the meridian at Greenwich, or England. Parallel is  a person or thing that is similar or analogous to another. Meridian is  a circle of constant longitude passing through a given place on the earth's surface and the terrestrial poles. The most major  significant  lines of Latitude and Longitude is  the equator, the Tropic of Cancer, the Tropic of Capricorn, and the prime meridian. My absolute location is 0,0 with the Equator and Prime Meridian meet.
Mason Freburger  9/17/19 Interpreting Maps          Geographers describe where things are by these three things scale, space, and connections. A Map Scale is a ratio which compares a measurement on a map to the actual distance between locations identified on the map. Projection is an estimate of a future amount. Meridian is  a circle of constant longitude passing through a given place on the earth's surface and the terrestrial poles. The Longitude  of a place is its distance to the west or east of a line passing through Greenwich, England. Parallel is   side by side and having the same distance continuously between them. The Latitude  of a place is its distance from the equator. Prime Meridian  is the line of longitude,  corresponding  to  zero   degrees  and  passing  through Greenwich, England, from which all the other lines of longitude are calculated. The role of map  sca...

Mason Freburger 9/10/19 Mental Maps         A Mental Maps is a  first person perspective of an area and how they interact with it. Activity Space is the local area that people move around in and travel. The three ways we use Mental Maps is to find point a to point b, organizing and storing information for the future, and also a way to make a meaning or a point. Mental Maps are used in spatial research. Mental Maps are also used in strategic analysis.
Mason Freburger 9/9/19 Introduction To Maps           Geographers use different concepts to find where things are located. The concepts are place, region, scale, space, connections, and a reference tool. Cartography is the science or practice of drawing maps. A Map is a  representation of an area of land or sea showing physical features like cities or roads. A bsolute location  is a description of the exact site on an objective coordinate system.  A  relative location  is the position of something  relative  to another landmark. Two ways that Geographers use maps are, number one is for the absolute and  relative location. Number two is for communication and for its physical features. The earliest maps were used for reference tools just to show a traveler to get to place to place.  Improvements later were made by Ptolemy.
Mason Freburger 9/4/19 Introduction to Human Geography       Human Geography is the study of peoples cultures, economies, and the community that they are living day to day. Human Geography is basically what events certain people attend and all of their activities. Geography is a study of earth and all the planets. Geography studies what inside earth for instance, the land, features, and inhabitants. Human Geography is the study of peoples cultures, communities, and also their religion. Physical Geography is a branch that deals with nature and all the processes that are in nature. The differences of Physical Geography and Human Geography is that Physical Geography deals with the climate and processes of nature while Human Geography is about peoples cultures and their economies. The similarities of Human Geography and Physical Geography is that they both involve humans and the environments because they are both linked by humans. The three types of maps are a politic...
