Mason Freburger 6/4/20 Letter To My Future Self Dear Future Self, Things in the world changed my freshman year, during the year of 2020. There was a virus that started plaguing millions of Americans, it was called The Corona Virus.  This virus spanned across the world.  Hundreds of thousands of people died from being exposed to this virus.  The Corona Virus had a big impact on everyones life because everyone was ordered to self quarantine. This meant I could no longer attend school, visit with friends, go out to eat, and many other inconveniences. I couldn't even go get my haircut.  My mom had to cut my hair herself several times. The worst thing that I experienced having to do with the Corona Virus was that all sports were canceled and all gyms were closed. My life for the past several weeks has been horrible. It has been horrible because I've had to do school work everyday and wake up by a certain time but did not get to go to my school and see my friends. ...

Mason Freburger 5/28/20 Slide Notes 43-52 Julius Caesar’s grandnephew and adopted son takes over only at the age of 18. M ark Antony is an experienced general. Lepidus is a powerful politician. Octavian defeats Mark Antony at the Battle of Actium. Mark Antony and Cleopatra of Egypt form an alliance and start as a team. Octavian becomes the unchallenged ruler of Rome. Octavian was given the title imperator. Octavian made Rome a Empire instead of it being not a republic. Octavian ruled 40 years as emperor. He also began a stable era of peace and prosperity which is known as the Pax Romana. Rome used Pax Romana for 207 years long. Octavian died of natural causes. He expanded the Roman Empire further into Africa. After Octavian's death his power was passed down to emperors.  A fter Tiberius son died, he exiled himself from Rome and left his prefects in charge. Mason Freburger 5/26/20 Study  Guide Notes I will be taking my test on Tuesday June 2nd from 8:55- 9:45 am. Poet Juvenal said that Rome is always asking for bread and circuses as something they need. They needed bread which was free grain from the state.  They needed entertainment like circuses or Colsseum to keep them alive and distracted. Tiberius Gracchus has advantages of courting with the plebeians because they don't have much. Military generals lead an army to conquer land. T here was three men that formed the First Triumvirate which was also known as the rule of three men.  Caesar appoints himself governor of Gaul. Pompey gets jealous and becomes his rival. Octavian was named Julius Caesar’s sole heir.

Mason Freburger 5/20/20 Roman Government vs. Modern Day Government A.   Compare and contrast the government of ancient Rome with the government of the modern-day United States.     In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting the Roman government with the Modern day government. In some ways they are alike and in others very different. In my opinion, I think that the Roman government proves to be more barbaric and strict in their ways than today's modern government.      The Roman government was ruled by the Roman Republic for five hundred years. This was a form of government that allowed people to elect officials. Their government still had a constitution and laws like every regular government. Mason Freburger 5/18/20 Roman Empire Notes civil war-  a war between citizens of the same country. Julius Caesar -  was a Roman statesman and general who played a critical role in the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire. Triumvirate-   a group of three men holding power,  the unofficial coalition of Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus in 60 BC and  a coalition formed by Antony, Lepidus, and Octavian in 43 BC . Augustus-  was a Roman statesman and military leader who became the first emperor of the Roman Empire, reigning from 27 BC until his death in AD 14. Pax Romana- the peace which existed between nationalities within the Roman Empire. Mason Freburger 5/14/20 Slides 23-31 The Roman army’s elite had heavy infantry. Horseback riding is calvary. The Punic wars started in 264 BCE and ended in 146 BCE. The Punic wars was between Rome Vs Carthage.  Their was three punic wars. The Punic wars took place in Europe. The army had shield, sword, dagger, and armor and tunic weapons. The first punic war was 264 - 241BCE Rome wins the first Punic war. Naval battles were on Sicily. Second Punic war was 218- 201BCE General Hannibal attacks Rome from the north after crossing Iberia. 29-year-old general Hannibal attacks Rome. Carthage was burned for 17 days The city’s walls and buildings were utterly destroyed When the war was over with the last 50,000 people in the city were sold into slavery.

Mason Freburger 5/12/20 Tarquin as a Tyrant Tarquin seized power and acted like and old school tyrant.  On of Tarquin's daughters Tullia kills her husband and her own sister. Tarquin's grandfather was the fifth king of Rome.  Tullia talks Tarquin into taking over her fathers throne.  Tarquin becomes king and send Tullia his daughter home for safety.  On Tullia's was home she find her fathers dead body and Tarquin refuses to bury him.  A lot of people did not like Tarquin and how he ruled so they ran him out so he wasn't king. Tarquin terrible behavior made them never want to be subject to the rule of kings ever again, that was an attitude for centuries.  Plebs were 98% of the population. Plebs had to serve in the army but could not hold office.  Plebs had no legal rights. Plebs were threatened with debt slavery.  The laws were written out on the The Twelve tables which were tablets that got carved. ...

Mason Freburger 5/8/20 Rome slides 1-8 The Estruscans came from north-central part of the peninsula. They were also metalworkers, artists, architects. The greeks had many colonies around the Mediterranean Sea. The Romans copied the Greeks ideas like their religious believes, their art, alphabet, and military techniques. The Tiber river was close to Rome. There were many streams connected to the Tiber. Tarquin built the Cloaca Maxima which channeled water into the Tiber An urban legend says that Washington DC was built on a swamp. Constitution Avenue is located on what used to be called the Tiber Creek. Lucius Tarq uinias Superbus was the seventh and final kind of Rome. Traquin had two nicknames Tarquin the proud and Tarquin the Arrogant. He was a true tyrant in the modern day definition.

Mason Freburger 5/7/20 Rome By Chi Cago        When I first heard the song Rome by Chi Cago I didn't think I had the right song on because it was very catchy. My reaction when the song was playing was me just smiling and thinking that this isn't that bad of a song. Before I heard the song I thought it was going to be horrible but I was wrong. The best part about it was that the beat was from Apple Bottom Jeans and I love that song. I would listen to the song again no doubt and would recommend. 

Mason Freburger 5/4/20 Twelve Tables      The Twelve Tables was a set of twelve laws. They were created in 451 B.C. when ten officials came up with the laws. Each of the 12 laws was carved onto a bronze tablet. The laws were hung in the Forum. These laws were the basis for later Roman laws in the future. The main idea of the laws was that all free citizens had a right to the protection of the law. 

Mason Freburger 5/1/20 This is called The Roman Theatre of Merida and was it was built in 16 B.C. This theatre could hold up to 6,000 people in it.

Mason Freburger 4/30/20 Question Answers                     The main differences between Roman Patricians and plebeians was that the Plebeians  were  usually the farmers, craftsmen, laborers, and the soldiers  of Rome . Plebeians also only had a few rights. Rome Patricians had a lot of rights and made the laws they were also the general over the army. The Greek versions of patricians and plebeians were really the same and had the same rules the only thing different was that they lived in Greece.

Patrician- the wealthy landowners who held most of the power.  3. Plebeian-  the common farmers, artisans, and merchants who made up the majority of the population.  4. Tribune-  Tribunes protected the rights of the plebeians from unfair acts of patrician officials.  5. Consul- Like kings, they commanded the army and directed the government.  6. Senate- was the aristocratic branch of Romes government. 7. Dictator- a leader who has absolute power to make laws and command the army.  8. He was born  around July 20 356 B.C in Pella. He died  June 323 BC in  Babylon. Alexander had a horse as his best friend who was called Bucephalus.          Alexander the Great wanted the strongest, Fastest, best looking, and most famous horse in History. Alexander couldn't buy him because the price was three times the amount of a normal horses price. So f or Alexander to get the horse his father challenged him  and said he would pay for the horse if Alexander were unable to tame him. So  Alexander walked toward the horse calmly. Plato defined Forms as the ideal versions of the things and concepts we see around us, they serve as sort of an  instruction manual to our own world.  2) Who are the three groups in Plato’s ideal society?   The three groups in Platos ideal society was Producers, the  military, and the rulers. 3) What were Plato’s thoughts on women? Plato thought that a  women's womb was a live animal that could wonder around her body and cause illnesses.  4) What was the Noble Lie that Plato proposed? The Noble Lie that Plato proposed was that everyone was born with gold and silver or a mixture with brass and iron in our souls which determined our roles in life.

The people of Greece thought these gods were capable of doing anything because of the power they had. Little did the people know most of the Greek gods were myths and never existed. The Greeks also believed that there was 12 gods and goddesses that ruled the universe on top of Greece's Mount Olympus. They had gods for pretty much everything like Poseiden was the god of the sea,  Aphrodite was the goddess of love.  The most powerful god was Zeus he was the ruler of heaven and earth. Zeus was also the god of  the sky, weather, thunder, lightning, law, order, and justice. Zeus was known for his temper when he was mad he hurled thunder bolts. Zeus had 54 children. Athena was his daughter and she was born out of Zeus's head. This building that I picked is a Greek temple. The temple is made out of white marble but the white paint wore off. The Greeks built a different temple for each God. This is a theater it is called The Great Theater of Epidaurus. This theater is big enough to sit 13000 to 14000 people. The seats were made out of stone and it is in a wide open area. It was used for multiple things like  singing, music, and dramatic games but also sometime was used to worship the gods.

Mason Freburger 3/31/20  Corona Virus         The Corona Virus is taking over the world and the deaths keep going up everyday. In Maryland there are 1660 confirmed cases of the Corona Virus. Today on the news it said that in twenty four hours 700 people got the Corona Virus. This is the first time in history that they cancelled school for other reasons than war. I think this is much more challenging not being at school because when I'm in school I am tought what I am learning but at home I have to learn to teach myself. There is much more work in cyber school than in school because in school the teacher waste time talking and handing out papers. So many businesses and stores have closed down because of the Corona Virus. They closed because they don't have people buying their product and cant afford to stay open. In my opinion I think this was Chinas plan to kill us all.
